Astro Crane knows that working with high-rise structures is risky and dangerous. In order to get a load from the ground to the working floor requires a strong pulley system and a precision-oriented crane operator with knowledge and experience to handle all the variables that come with the intense job.
Tower cranes are used to lift and/or lower heavy construction materials, and therefore crane operators need to pay attention to the load moment indicator. It’s an instrument used in determining whether a rated load is stable enough to be carried by the crane. In order to maintain the stability of a crane, always look at the load moment indicator for safety’s sake.
Crane technology has improved over the years. Today’s load moment indicators use sensors to let the operator know the following information: the moment of force applied on the crane, the hook amplitude as the height of the load increases, the crane rating, and the actual hoisting capacity of the crane. This is valuable information that can literally save lives.
Load moment indicators will show a slow blinking red light when a load is getting close to being unstable; they’ll emit an audible alarm if and when the load is seriously unstable– and they’ll stop the lifting gear from lifting the load upward. It’s better to be safe than sorry, as an unstable crane load could come crashing down and literally injure or kill people below.
If you’re renting a crane from Astro Crane for use in New England, be sure to pay attention to its load moment indicator. It’s there for a reason– to keep you and your crew safe.
