Cranes are very important when it comes to the construction of tall buildings across the world. However, their sight sometimes leaves many grumbling in frustration as their appearance reminds many of the potential horrors of construction. These negative emotions that are evoked cause many to lose sight of why cranes and other machinery are so instrumental their cities. One event in Washington D.C. is looking to change this connotation.
More Than a Metal Eyesore
During the Capital Fringe festival a Toronto based artist has choreographed an hour dance that two cranes will perform for many to see. The hope is that it will help people start to really appreciate what it takes to build a city, as it requires a lot of hard work from numerous people for what can be a very long time period. He also wants people to see the cranes as a symbol of change which will help people appreciate the city around them a little more. This dance also has the potential to alter many negative thoughts people may have about construction that they feel is more of a detriment to their everyday life. If the artist’s goals are accomplished, his display will be much like construction as the ends will justify the means.
